Terms of Service

Use Coldbox to plan your meals. Do not break it, do not use it to hurt anyone, and do not expect a small app to be perfect. The non-AI part is free forever. The AI part has limits, and the limits are always on screen. You own what you put in, you can take it out, and you can delete all of it yourself.

By using Coldbox you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use it. These terms are between you and the individual who runs Coldbox. Contact: support@meals.johnnylinsf.com.

You need to be 13 or older. If you are using it on behalf of a household, you are responsible for what the people you invite do with it.

You sign in with Apple, with Google, or with a code sent to your email. There is no password to lose, which means access to your email or your Apple or Google account is access to your Coldbox account. Keep those safe. Tell us if you think someone else has got in.

Coldbox is shared by design. Everyone in a household can see and change everything in it: recipes, plans, grocery lists, pantry, stores, prices, and the history of AI requests. Any member can invite another person with a link, and that link works for seven days.

So invite carefully. If you invite someone, you are giving them your household's data. Removing them later does not un-see it.

• Free is free forever, and it is not a crippled version. Your recipe box, the week grid, the shared grocery list, the pantry, stores and offline shopping all work with no time limit and no card.
• Free includes 25 AI actions, for the life of the household, so you can see whether the AI part is worth paying for. Planning a week, importing a recipe, finding ideas, cooking from what you have and scanning a fridge each count as one.
• Coldbox Plus is $6.99 per month or $59 per year, per household, and includes 250 AI actions per month.

The monthly limit is there to stop abuse, not to meter you. If a household somehow reaches it, the AI features pause until the calendar month rolls over in UTC, and everything else keeps working. We will not quietly swap in a worse model to keep you under a limit. A quietly worse answer is indistinguishable from the product getting bad, so we would rather pause and say so.

Prices are in US dollars and exclude any tax we are required to add. If we change the price, we will tell you before it applies to you.

Billing runs through Stripe and renews automatically until you cancel. Only the household owner can start, change, or cancel a plan, from Settings. Cancel at any time and Plus runs to the end of the period you already paid for, then the household drops back to free. Nothing is deleted when that happens.

We do not do automatic refunds for a period already started, but we are a person, not a billing department. If something went wrong, email support@meals.johnnylinsf.com and we will sort it out.

If you subscribed through the web, that subscription applies to your household everywhere, including in the iOS app. The iOS app does not sell anything.

Your recipes, plans, lists and photos are yours. We do not claim ownership. You give us only the permission we need to actually run the app: to store your content, show it to the people in your household, and send the parts you point at the AI features to our AI providers so they can answer. Nothing else, and no rights that outlive your account.

We do not use your content to train AI models.

The import feature fetches a page you choose and reads it. Use it for your own reference. Copying someone else's recipe writing and republishing it is on you, not us, and we will honour a valid complaint from a rights holder. If a site asks us not to fetch it, we will stop.

The AI features guess. They are useful and they are wrong sometimes. Treat every answer as a suggestion from a confident stranger, not as instruction.

• Check allergens yourself. Do not rely on Coldbox to tell you whether a dish is safe for someone with an allergy or an intolerance.
• Check cooking temperatures and times against a real food safety source, especially for meat, poultry, eggs and fish.
• Nothing here is nutritional, medical, or dietary advice.
• A fridge scan can miss items, invent items, and cannot tell you whether something has gone off. Look at the food.
• An imported recipe can be parsed wrong. Read it before you cook it.

Do not:

• break into other people's households, or try to;
• hammer the AI features to run up cost, resell them, or wire them into another product;
• scrape the app or run it through automated clients;
• upload other people's photos or personal information without their say-so;
• upload anything illegal, or anything you would not want a stranger to read;
• use it to build a competing service.

If a household is doing one of these, we may pause its AI features or close the account. If it is close to the line rather than over it, we will email first.

You can delete your account yourself, from Settings. It is immediate and permanent. If you are the only member of a household, the household and everything in it goes with you and any Plus subscription is cancelled. If other people are still in the household, their data stays and ownership passes on. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

Features come and go. If we are going to remove something you rely on, or shut Coldbox down, we will give you notice and a way to get your data out first.

Coldbox is provided as is. We do not promise it will be available, correct, or free of bugs, and we make no warranties beyond those the law will not let us disclaim. Keep your own copy of anything you would be upset to lose.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost data, or for anything that happens because you relied on an AI answer. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is capped at what you paid us in the twelve months before the problem, or twenty US dollars if you paid nothing.

Nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Carrying on using Coldbox after that means you accept the change.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, and the courts of San Francisco County, California have jurisdiction over any dispute. (Draft note: confirm this is the right jurisdiction before publishing.)
